Bee Hive Removal in San Antonio & the Texas Hill Country

Honey bee removal — without pesticides, ever.

NRZ Home Services removes honey bee swarms and established hives from homes and property across San Antonio, Bexar County, and the surrounding Hill Country. The bees are removed without pesticides. We take out the comb and honey we can reach, clean and seal the cavity so the spot is far less likely to be re-colonized, and repair what we opened. No poisons, no insecticide dust, no foam — at any stage. We do not offer extermination.

Why we never spray a hive

Spraying a colony is the fastest way to make a small problem into an expensive one. Insecticide reaches the bees at the entrance and little else. Everything that made the hive a problem — the wax, the brood, and often thirty to a hundred pounds of honey — stays sealed inside your wall.

In a San Antonio summer that wall cavity runs well over 100°F. Unattended wax softens and the honey runs. It seeps through drywall and ceilings as brown stains that bleed back through fresh paint, it ferments and smells, and it draws in the next wave of ants, roaches, wax moths, and rodents. Then, months later, a new swarm smells the old nest and moves into the same cavity, because the scent that told the first colony this was a good home is still there. Removing the colony without poisons and cleaning out the comb is not just the kind thing to do — it is the only version of the job that actually ends.

❌ Spray-and-seal extermination

  • Comb, brood, and honey stay in the wall
  • Melting honey stains drywall and ceilings
  • Rotting brood odor lingers for months
  • Attracts ants, roaches, wax moths, and rodents
  • Nest scent invites the next swarm to the same spot
  • Pollinators destroyed

✅ Removal the way we do it

  • Bees removed without pesticides
  • Reachable comb and honey removed
  • Cavity cleaned to knock down the nest scent
  • Entry point and nearby gaps sealed
  • Opened structure repaired and repainted
  • Pollinators not poisoned

What our bee removal service covers

From a swarm on a fence post to a two-year-old colony behind second-story stucco.

Honey Bee Hive Removal

Removal of an established colony from a wall, soffit, chimney, roof, shed, or tree cavity, without pesticides. The reachable comb comes out with the bees, so there is nothing left behind to melt or rot.

Bee Swarm Removal & Capture

A swarm hanging on a fence post, tree limb, mailbox, or patio furniture has no comb yet and is usually the fastest and cheapest job we do. Call the same day — swarms move on within 24 to 72 hours, and once they move into your wall the job gets much bigger.

Bees in a Wall or Ceiling

Colonies inside a structure need the cavity opened, the comb and honey removed, and the void cleaned. We locate the nest, open the smallest access we can, and close the structure back up.

Comb & Honey Cleanout

An abandoned or exterminated hive leaves behind wax and honey that melts in Texas heat, stains drywall and ceilings, and draws ants, roaches, and wax moths. We scrape the cavity clean and treat the surfaces.

Bee-Proofing & Entry Sealing

Scout bees find old nest sites by smell. After cleanout we seal the entry point and screen or close the nearby gaps — weep holes, soffit returns, fascia joints, siding seams, and utility penetrations — to make the spot a far less attractive target.

Repair & Restoration

Because we are a home services company first, the drywall, siding, brick, stucco, or soffit we opened is repaired and repainted by the same crew. You are not left with a hole and a referral. On weathered or discontinued finishes an exact texture and color match is not always achievable, and we will say so before we cut.

How a bee removal actually goes

Many residential removals are a half-day job, though a large, hard-to-reach, or long-established colony can take longer. Here is the typical sequence, start to finish.

  1. 1

    Phone triage and free estimate

Tell us where the bees are going in and how long they have been there. A photo or short video helps a lot. We tell you whether it is a swarm, an established hive, or a wasp or yellow jacket nest, and give you a free, no-obligation estimate. Anything quoted over the phone is a preliminary range — structural removals are priced in writing after we have seen the site, because what is inside a wall cannot be known from the curb.

  2. 2

    On-site inspection

We confirm the species, find where the nest sits inside the cavity, and work out how big the job is. This is what determines where we open and what the written price covers.

  3. 3

Set up and protect the area

We post off the work zone and protect landscaping, flooring, and furniture. Pets, children, and anyone with a sting allergy stay indoors or away from the flight path while we work.

  4. 4

    Remove the bees without pesticides

We agree the opening locations with you before anything is cut, then open the smallest access that reaches the nest and remove the bees. No pesticide, dust, foam, or poison is used at any point. If opening the cavity uncovers something unrelated to the bees — rot, mold, wiring, or plumbing in the way — we stop and talk to you before going further.

  5. 5

    Remove the comb and honey

All comb we can reach comes out, and it is bagged and hauled away so nothing is left to ferment, melt, or attract secondary pests. Where a colony has spread into a void we cannot reach without demolition well beyond the agreed scope, we will show you what we found and discuss the options rather than quietly closing it up.

  6. 6

    Clean, seal, and repair

We scrape and clean the cavity to knock down the nest scent that draws the next swarm, seal the entry and nearby gaps, and repair and repaint what we opened. Honey staining that had already bled into drywall or ceilings before we arrived may need separate remediation, and we will point it out when we see it.

Is it honey bees, wasps, or yellow jackets?

It changes the job completely, and it is the first thing we ask on the phone. Text or email a photo from a safe distance and we will give you our read at no charge — treat it as a preliminary opinion until we confirm the species on site.

Honey bees

We remove these without pesticides.

  • Golden brown and noticeably fuzzy, about ½ inch long
  • Steady two-way traffic into one small opening
  • Wax comb inside a cavity — a wall, soffit, chimney, or tree
  • Calm unless the nest itself is disturbed

Paper wasps

Nest knockdown only.

  • Slender and smooth with long legs trailing in flight
  • Open, gray, umbrella-shaped comb under eaves or in grills
  • Dozens of insects, not thousands
  • No wax and no honey

Yellow jackets

Not honey bees — different treatment.

  • Bright yellow and black, smooth and shiny, not fuzzy
  • Fast, erratic flight rather than a steady line
  • Often nesting in the ground, a stump, or a wall void
  • Aggressive well away from the nest, especially in late summer

Found bees today? Do this while you wait.

  • ✅ Keep people and pets out of the flight path
  • ✅ Close nearby windows and exterior doors
  • ✅ Seal the gap under an interior door with a towel if bees get in
  • ✅ Note where they enter — take a photo or short video from a distance
  • 🚫 Do not spray them with insecticide or water
  • 🚫 Do not plug or seal the entry hole
  • 🚫 Do not swat, throw things, or run a mower nearby
  • 🚫 Do not try to smoke or burn them out

If someone has been stung repeatedly, is having a reaction, or has a known sting allergy, call 911 first. Then call us at (210) 907-7947.

What bee hive removal costs

There is no honest flat rate for hive removal, because the price is driven by access rather than by the number of bees. Two colonies of identical size — one on a low branch, one behind second-story stucco — are completely different jobs. These are the factors we price against. Estimates are free, and structural removals are quoted in writing once we have seen the site.

Swarm or established hive

A swarm has no comb yet and is the fastest job we do. A colony that has been in place for months has heavy comb, brood, and honey to remove.

How long the colony has been there

Comb volume roughly tracks with time. A three-week-old colony is a fraction of the work of a two-year-old one in the same wall.

Height and access

Ground level beats a ladder, a ladder beats a second story, and a second-story chimney or steep roof pitch costs the most.

What has to be opened

Removable soffit panels and siding are straightforward. Stucco, stone, brick veneer, and finished interior drywall take longer to open and longer to restore.

Repair and finish work

Closing the structure back up, matching texture, and repainting is real carpentry time — and it is included in the quote rather than left for you to arrange.

Urgency

Same-day and after-hours emergency calls near doorways, schools, or anyone with a sting allergy are prioritized and quoted accordingly.

Bee Removal FAQ

The questions San Antonio homeowners ask us most about hive removal.

Do you use pesticides to remove bees?

No. NRZ Home Services does not use pesticides, insecticide dusts, foams, or poisons in any part of bee hive removal. The bees are removed without them, and the comb and honey we can reach are cut out and hauled away. If a colony genuinely has to be exterminated, that is chemical work we do not perform — we will tell you so and recommend you contact a licensed Texas structural pest control applicator. Any company we point you toward contracts with you directly; the suggestion is a starting point, not an endorsement.

How much does bee hive removal cost in San Antonio?

It depends far more on access than on the number of bees. An exposed swarm on a low branch or fence is the cheapest job; a colony that has been inside a two-story wall or chimney for a year, with heavy comb and honey to remove, is the most expensive. The main cost drivers are height and reach, whether the structure has to be opened, how much comb and honey is inside, and how much repair the opening needs. Estimates from NRZ Home Services are always free and no-obligation. A figure given over the phone is a preliminary range only — structural removals are quoted in writing after an on-site inspection, and any work uncovered behind the wall that is unrelated to the bees is quoted separately before we continue. Call (210) 907-7947 and we will look at your specific situation.

Can you just spray the bees or plug the hole?

Please do not, and we will not. Spraying only kills the bees near the entrance and leaves the comb, brood, and honey sealed inside your wall. In San Antonio heat that honey ferments and melts, runs down inside the cavity, stains drywall and ceilings for months, and attracts ants, roaches, wax moths, and rodents. Plugging the entrance is worse — trapped bees chew toward the light and often end up inside the living space. Removing the colony and the comb is the only fix that actually ends the problem.

What happens to the bees after you remove them?

They are removed from the structure without pesticides and they leave the property with our crew. What NRZ Home Services does not do is sell relocation as a service. We do not quote it, promise it, or guarantee that any particular colony is re-homed, kept, or survives, and you should not choose us on that basis. What is guaranteed is the method: no pesticide, dust, foam, or poison is used at any stage, and we do not offer extermination.

How fast can you get here? Is emergency bee removal available?

NRZ Home Services works Monday through Saturday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM CST, and we take emergency calls outside those hours, subject to crew availability, for active stinging situations near a door, a school, a playground, or anyone with a known sting allergy. We aim to treat swarms as same-day work, because a swarm still hanging in the open can often be collected in under an hour while the same colony three days later is inside your wall and a far bigger job. We cannot promise a fixed arrival time in advance — weather, daylight, and the job already in front of us all affect it, and we would rather give you an honest window when you call than a number we cannot hold to. If anyone is in immediate danger, call 911 rather than waiting on us.

Do I have bees, wasps, or yellow jackets?

Honey bees are golden brown, fuzzy, about half an inch long, and fly a steady two-way traffic line into a single small opening. Paper wasps are slender and smooth with long trailing legs and build an open, umbrella-shaped gray comb under eaves. Yellow jackets are bright yellow and black, smooth and shiny, fly fast and erratically, and often nest in the ground or in a void. Send us a photo from a safe distance and we will give you our read at no charge. Treat a photo identification as a preliminary opinion — we confirm the species on site before quoting or starting any work.

Will you have to cut into my wall?

If the colony is inside a wall, soffit, chimney, or ceiling, yes — there is no way to get the comb and honey out without opening the cavity, and leaving the comb behind is what causes the staining, odor, and re-infestation problems. We agree the opening locations with you before anything is cut, open the smallest access that reaches the nest, work from the outside where the siding or stucco allows it, and repair and repaint what we opened as part of the job. Nobody can see inside a wall before it is open, so if we find rot, mold, wiring, plumbing, or damage unrelated to the bees, we stop and show you before going any further, and that work is quoted separately. On weathered, custom, or discontinued finishes an exact texture and color match is not always achievable, and we will flag that before we start rather than after.

Do the bees come back after removal?

A properly cleaned and sealed cavity is a much poorer target than one still full of comb. Bees return when the comb and nest scent are left in the wall, because scout bees smell an old nest site from a long way off and read it as a move-in-ready home — which is why our removals include a full cleanout of the comb and honey we can reach, cleaning of the cavity surfaces, and sealing of the entry and the nearby gaps. What we will not tell you is that your property will never attract bees again. A house has many potential cavities, South Texas produces a lot of swarms every spring, and no honest operator can guarantee otherwise. Ask us what is included for your specific job and we will put it in writing.

Are the bees in South Texas Africanized?

Many feral colonies in the San Antonio area carry Africanized genetics. Africanized bees look virtually identical to European honey bees but are far quicker to defend the nest and stay agitated much longer. We assess colony behavior before we start and clear the area first. Bee work carries an inherent risk of stings that no amount of care removes entirely, which is why we ask that people and pets stay indoors or well clear while we are on site, and we may ask you to leave the immediate area during the removal. A colony that is too defensive to remove safely is not something we will force — we will tell you plainly, and where chemical treatment is the appropriate remedy we will recommend you contact a licensed Texas structural pest control applicator.

What should I do right now, before you arrive?

Keep people and pets away from the entrance and out of the flight path, close nearby windows and doors, and do not spray, swat, plug the hole, or throw water at the colony — all of those turn a calm colony into a defensive one. If bees are getting into a room, close that room off at the door and seal the gap underneath with a towel. Then call (210) 907-7947. This is general safety guidance rather than medical advice: if anyone has been stung repeatedly, is having a reaction, or has a known sting allergy, call 911 first.

Do you guarantee the work?

We stand behind the workmanship on what we actually perform — the removal, the cleanout, the sealing, and the repair described in your written estimate — under the same warranty terms that cover all NRZ Home Services work. What we do not offer is a guarantee that bees will never nest on your property again, or any warranty as to the fate of a colony once it leaves your property, which is not something we sell or control. If something we installed or repaired fails, tell us and we will make it right. Scope, warranty, and liability terms are set out in our Terms and Conditions.

What areas do you serve for bee removal?

NRZ Home Services provides bee hive removal across San Antonio and Bexar County — including Alamo Heights, Stone Oak, Castle Hills, Shavano Park, Leon Valley, Helotes, Converse, Schertz, and Universal City — plus Boerne, Fair Oaks Ranch, Bulverde, Castroville, Lakehills, Bandera, Pipe Creek, Medina, Mico, and the wider Texas Hill Country.

Do you remove bees from trees, sheds, and water meter boxes?

Yes. We remove colonies from tree cavities and hollow limbs, sheds and barns, playhouses, grills, compost bins, irrigation and water meter boxes, chimneys, and abandoned vehicles and equipment, in addition to the walls, soffits, and ceilings of houses.

Scope of our bee removal service

  • Removal without pesticides. NRZ Home Services performs non-chemical honey bee removal. We do not apply pesticides and we do not offer extermination. Where chemical treatment is the appropriate remedy, we will say so and recommend you contact a licensed Texas structural pest control applicator. That company would contract with you directly — a recommendation from us is not an endorsement, and we neither perform nor supervise chemical work.
  • Relocation is not a service we sell. The bees are removed from your property. We do not quote, promise, or warrant relocation, re-homing, or placement of a colony with a beekeeper, and we make no representation about what becomes of a colony after removal. What we commit to is that no pesticide is used, not to any outcome for the colony.
  • Estimates. Estimates are free. Figures given by phone or from photographs are preliminary; structural removals are quoted in writing after an on-site inspection. The written estimate defines the scope of work.
  • Opening a structure. Opening locations are agreed with you before any cutting begins. Conditions inside a wall cannot be known in advance — if we find rot, mold, pest damage, wiring, plumbing, or other issues unrelated to the bees, we stop and discuss it with you, and any additional work is quoted separately.
  • Repairs and finishes. We repair and refinish what we opened. On weathered, custom, or discontinued materials an exact texture or color match is not always achievable. Honey staining, odor, or damage that occurred before we arrived may require separate remediation.
  • Re-infestation. Cleanout and sealing substantially reduce the chance that bees reoccupy the same cavity. No company can guarantee that a property will never attract bees again.
  • Safety and site access. Working with stinging insects carries inherent risk that care cannot eliminate. We ask that people and pets stay clear of the work area and flight path, and we may ask you to leave the immediate area during a removal. We may decline or stop any job we judge unsafe, including highly defensive colonies and locations we cannot reach safely.
  • Scheduling. Response times, including same-day and after-hours calls, depend on crew availability, weather, and daylight, and are targets rather than commitments.
  • Availability. Not all services are available in all areas, according to local rules and regulations.

Everything on this page is a description of the service, not a contract. Warranty, liability, and payment terms are set out in our Terms and Conditions, which govern any work we perform.
